JANUARY 2013: SeriousAboutMuscle.com's "Iron Shots" image typically featured men, so we decided to change that and kick off 2013 with this shot of one of Canada's most successful female competitors: Michele Steeves. The picture was taken by Doug Schneider at the 2012 Physique Canada Canadian Championships as Michele took home the first-place trophy in the Tier 1 Elite women's muscular physique class. It was Michele's second Physique Canada Tier 1 Elite win (she was also the winner at the 2012 Physique Canada National Classic).
DECEMBER 2012: Carlo Lombard is fast becoming known as The Wildman of Bodybuilding, shown in the photo above doing the "archer" pose with Tier 1 Elite athletes Simon Proteau (left) and Rob DeLuca (right) at the 2012 Physique Canada Canadian Championships, held on October 20. Carlos's energy at the podium makes Physique Canada's events fun and exciting to watch. Regular readers will note that this shot was basically a sequel to the "Iron Shot" we published last August, where Carlos and Rob were doing the same pose at the Physique Canada National Classic in June. We eagerly look forward to what Carlos cooks up at next year's Physique Canada shows.

OCTOBER 2012: Erik Alstrup is one of Canada's best-known and most-celebrated natural bodybuilding competitors. This photo was taken by Doug Schneider in 2009 at the IDFA Montreal Classic during Erik's comeback to the bodybuilding stage after a 10-year absence. Erik earned his IDFA professional status at this event. This month Erik will compete as a Tier 1 Elite athlete with Physique Canada at the 2012 Physique Canada Canadian Championships.
SEPTEMBER 2012: This photo of Denis Pedneault was taken by Doug Schneider in October 2011, just three weeks before Denis competed at the 2011 IFBB World Championships. Denis, a longtime contributor to SeriousAboutMuscle.com with his "Body Sculpting column," is one of Canada's most accomplished natural competitors and trainers. Denis is now a Tier 1 Elite competitor with Physique Canada, the nation's newest physique organization, where he also puts on in-depth seminars so others can learn about his unique exercises and training style.

JULY 2012: This photo of the Tier 3 men's bodybuilding competitors was shot by Dave Paul on June 16, 2012, at the 2012 Physique Canada National Classic, held at the beautiful Canadian Museum of Civilization. Physique Canada is the nation's newest physique organization and the National Classic was its inaugural event. By all accounts, the 2012 Physique Canada National Classic was a huge success and a great indicator of what's to come from this exciting men's and women's physique organization.
JUNE 2012: This shot of Michael Martinez was taken by Doug Schneider in December 2010 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. At that time, Michael was was preparing for the IFBB's world championships. Michael is now a Tier 1 Elite competitor with Physique Canada and is currently preparing for the organization's inaugural event on June 16: the Physique Canada National Classic.
MAY 2012: This shot was taken by Doug Schneider on April 15, 2012, in Rob DeLuca's home gym. According to Doug, it's not only the biggest home gym he's ever seen, it's also the best since Rob handpicked all the equipment in it. Doug also shot Rob's entire workout for the new "Authentic Iron" video series that will debut on SeriousAboutMuscle.com on May 15. Rob is currently training for the Physique Canada National Classic on June 16.

Steve is a grade-A judge, a champion bodybuilder, and an expert trainer who practices what he preaches. This photo was taken by Doug Schneider in October 2011 – Steve is doing a unique abdominal exercise while Physique Canada's president, Brian Robitaille, looks on and waits his turn. Brian is obviously another guy who walks the walk.
MARCH 2012: SeriousAboutMuscle.com publisher Doug Schneider calls Denis Pedneault "The New Iron Guru," a nickname inspired by legendary trainer Vince Gironda who died in 1997. Vince was known to many as "The Iron Guru" and was credited with devising many of the training methods that people take for granted today. Doug calls Denis that because of the similarities between the two men when it comes training, and the fact that many of Denis's favorite exercises were created or inspired by Gironda. This photo shows Denis performing The Gironda Dip, Vince's favorite for developing the pecs.
FEBRUARY 2012: This shot of Rob DeLuca could be titled "Pumping Up and Pigging Out." (Actually, Rob was carbing up, but to most people it would amount to the same thing! He was gracious enough to pose for this picture, though.) The photo was taken backstage at the IDFA's International Championships held in the summer of 2010. Rob is one of Canada's most successful natural bodybuilders and is now a Tier 1 Elite competitor with the nation's newest physique organization, Physique Canada.
JANUARY 2012: Brian Robitaille and Steve Duperré not hold the president and secretary general positions at Physique Canada, they walk the talk when it comes to training and competing. Both are lifetime drug-free competitors. Brian is a former two-time Canadian champion who represented Canada at the IFBB World Championships in 2000. Steve has competed for over 15 years and attained pro status in the IDFA. Brian and Steve have retired from competition, but they are both putting their expertise and efforts into making Physique Canada the very best organization Canada has ever had.
DECEMBER 2011: Quebec's Denis Pedneault is a lifetime drug-free competitor. He has been competing successfully for so long that he's now considered to be one of the legends of the Canadian bodybuilding scene. This shot was taken by Doug Schneider on October 23, 2011, just two weeks before Denis competed in the 2011 IFBB World Men's Bodybuilding Championships.
NOVEMBER 2011: This shot of Al Kabia was taken by Doug Schneider on July 22, 2011, at the IDFA International Championships in Toronto, Canada, which is when he won his IDFA Pro Card. This month Al will compete in the IDFA's Pro Universe competition in Toronto, Canada, and his brand-new feature column, "Kabia's Korner," will debut on SeriousAboutMuscle.com.

AUGUST 2011: This pump-room shot of Al Kabia was taken on July 22, 2011, at the IDFA International Championships in Toronto, Canada. Al was competing in the middlweight class in the amateur division. Al not only won his class, but the overall title as well, which earned him an IDFA Pro Card.
JULY 2011: This behind-the-stage shot was taken by Doug Schneider at the IDFA Novice Classic held on May 28, 2011. JUNE 2011: Shaun Campbell is the president of International Drug Free Athletics (IDFA), Canada's fastest-growing physique organization, and is obviously a leader who walks the talk. Shaun is a former natural competitor who still trains despite being retired for several years. For Shaun, training isn't something one does just for competitions; instead, it's a lifelong pursuit.
MAY 2011: Steve Duperre was the over-40 masters, lightweight, and overall men's bodybuilding winner at the 2011 IDFA Montreal Classic held April 9. This photo of Steve was taken by Doug Schneider about two weeks prior to the contest when Steve was still training extremely hard. Steve's workouts involve a number of unique exercises, including this TRX-based exercise for the triceps.
APRIL 2011: This photo of Brian Robitaille was taken by Doug Schneider in March 2011 in Ottawa, Canada. Brian is a lifetime drug-free bodybuilder and a two-time Canadian champion who represented Canada at the 2000 IFBB World Championships. Brian has retired from bodybuilding competition but still trains and is actively involved; currently, Brian is the Chief Doping Control Officer for the IDFA.
